The Effects of the Cognitive Enhancement Program on Memory, Depression and Quality of Life in Elderly

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the cognitive enhancement program on memory, depression and quality of life in a sample of elderly over 65 years. The experimental group participated in the cognitive enhancement program, the comparison group performed health improvement training and the control group had no treatment. To verify the effect of the program, Memory test, Geriatric Depression test, and the scales of life quality were administered to three groups as a pre- and post-test. As a result of this study, the experimental group showed improved memory function and reduction of depression scores, but there were no changes in quality of life. The comparison group and the control group had no significant change. The results imply that cognitive enhancement program is effective in improving memory and reducing depression of the elderly, but limited in improving elderly¡¯s quality of life.
